Authors: Gary Newman & Bronwyn Polson

Graduates Gary Newman and Bronwyn Polson are ideally placed to share the secrets of studying and socialising at university. They've been there, done that and have the scars to prove it.

Gary and Bronwyn studied Law and Arts degrees at Deakin University in Melbourne. They first collaborated as editors for student magazine Pandora’s Box and were involved in the creation of the Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) in 2000.

In 2004, Gary and Bronwyn made The State of the Union, a feature-length documentary on controversial student union elections at the University of Melbourne.

Gary has experience as a student advisor at Deakin University and graphic designer at a publishing company. He currently consults for the Victorian Government. Gary was also the singer/keyboardist in rock band Winston.

Bronwyn's background ranges from publications and human rights to roles at the University of Melbourne, Deakin University and Central Queensland University. She currently works as a legal editor for Monash University. Bronwyn is the founder of the globally successful The Friendship Page at friendship.com.au.

Perennial students, Gary and Bronwyn have both recently gone back to study: Gary a Masters of Film and Television and Bronwyn a Post-Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.

"Widespread nudity was one thing Polson was not expecting and there were many other surprises, which is why she has co-written The Beginner's Guide to University, with fellow ex-Deakin student Gary Newman." - The Australian
